I used to take time to reflect on the year behind me as the calendar year closed out, looking at what our team accomplished. These days, things are somewhat trickier. Continuous delivery means less time for reflection. Our team has worked hard this quarter to finalize WebSphere Liberty 16.0.0.4, the fourth and final release of Liberty in the year.
If someone told me in 2012 when we first released Liberty that we would be doing four releases a year, shipping new functionality and all without requiring migration, I don’t think I would have believed them. Now, as Liberty development lead and Liberty architect, I am thrilled to say I lead most of the updates our team works hard to deliver.
WebSphere Liberty 16.0.0.4 was delivered simultaneously through WASdev as well as directly through IBM Cloud. This release will be the last Liberty release that has a version of 16, since we increment the version based on the year to 17 for 2017.
In this delivery, we’re offering a wealth of new capabilities. Check out the enhancements to the runtime as well as included tools for application development, migration and system administration. Runtime enhancements this time are in the areas of security, logging, database connections and performance. Read more about specifics on WASdev.
We are busy enhancing our learning labs to highlight some of these new features. We now have a very comprehensive set that show how to develop applications on Liberty, how to run those apps in the cloud and how to administer your Liberty system.
As usual, we will be doing a webcast at no cost to explain all the great new stuff in the release. The webcast will also include the latest updates on licensing and product support. You’ll have a chance to get your hands on a download containing the driver and a set of labs to help get started quickly.
Please join us on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 to learn about Liberty and our latest functionality. Come see for yourself how simple and powerful this application server really can be.
