Big bets on infrastructure innovation: Day 2 recap from Think 2018
Tuesday at IBM Think built on the excitement of Day 1, with even more amazing announcements and eye-opening stories from our clients!
The day kicked off with Ginni Rometty’s Chairman’s Address, which highlighted how IBM and our clients are putting smart to work. Ginni professed that we’re at a critical inflection point at the intersection of technology and business: we’re witnessing exponential growth in new fields like AI, machine learning, blockchain, and quantum computing, which in turn allows businesses to gain insights from their data like never before.
IBM’s role in this inflection point is to allow our clients to take advantage of these new technologies, and Ginni detailed how we’ll be doing that with new offerings like Watson Assistant, and new cloud integrations like PowerAI on IBM Cloud and SAP HANA on Power Systems on IBM Cloud.
Shortly after, Tom Rosamilia, Senior Vice President of IBM Systems, shared how clients like Techcombank use IBM LinuxONE to realize the benefits of modern infrastructure while also leveraging their legacy IT assets. Later during the session, he was joined onstage by Donna Dillenberger, who shared a demo of the cutting-edge research her team has been doing improving machine learning models with the power of blockchain technology.
It was also a big day for the IBM Power Systems brand. Not only did we hear from Nvidia CEO Jenseng Huang about how NVIDIA V100 GPUs recently combined with IBM POWER9 hardware to set all new AI performance records, but we also saw the man, the legend — Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson — getting in on the #POWER9 Around the World tour.

Finally, after a bit more time exploring the Campuses, the day finished off with a VIP reception for Systems guests at Top Golf! We enjoyed excellent snacks and entertainment while challenging clients and partners to fun golf-related games like “TopChip,” “TopDrive,” and “TopPressure”.
What can I say — it was an action-packed day! Join us today for even more news out of the Modern Infrastructure campus at Think. Wednesday’s agenda includes talks from Steven Smith (Veteran Astronaut, Venture Capital Adviser, and former IBM Product Manager!) as well as a Facebook Live game show on how well you know the IBM Z with this year’s Master the Mainframe winners. Stay tuned!
